Ian Shrier is a licenced medical doctor with a PhD in Physiology and post-doctoral training in Epidemiology. In addition to his medical and academic appointments, Dr. Shrier currently serves as Consulting Medical Director for Cirque du Soleil.

Sport Medicine Physician

Dr. Shrier has over 25 years of experience as a sport medicine physician in private practice, as team physician for university and national sport teams and as organizer of medical care at competitions at all levels. Linking medical expertise to administrative acumen, Dr. Shrier has served as President of the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine, Chair of the committee that sets the Canadian national examination for sport medicine physicians, and Board of Trustee member of the American College of Sports Medicine. He also serves as an editorial board member of four international sport medicine journals.

Dr. Shrier has won several awards for teaching and presentations in Physiology, Medicine, and Research Methodology. His public engagements include television interviews (Discovery Channel, Spike Television, and CNN), as well as interviews for leading newspapers (including the New York Times, Wall Street Week, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, and Runner’s World), and radio stations (including the BBC, ESPN, TSN, CBS Evening News, and National Geographic News).

 

As a business consultant and collaborator, Dr. Shrier has taught and mentored business professionals in the effective management, use, analyses and interpretation of data. His expertise in physiology and medicine has benefitted leaders of organizations linked to the world of sport and exercise in decision-making processes by converting evidence into appropriate action.

Linking physiological, medical, and research methodology expertise to the business sphere, Dr. Shrier founded Savoir Faire Consultants in 1987. Through Savoir Faire Consultants, Dr. Shrier offers his know-how and experience to help make the most efficient and effective use of data in decision-making processes. Savoir Faire Consultants has garnered a reputation for placing  integrity and reliability at the fore of its client-centric and value-driven approach.

Over 20% of Dr. Shrier's peer-reviewed publications (40 of 180) represent collaborative work with non-researcher clinicians. He is currently the co-Editor-in-Chief of Research Synthesis Methods, the official journal of the Society for Research Synthesis Methodology.
